Google AdWords is actually a biding system. Those who have the higher bids get the better spot in the search rankings.  This also goes that the higher that you pay, the higher is your position on Google. This is just the basics in Google. You now you need to learn the 2 major types of campaigns that you can set up in Google.

1. Google Search Network – With this, it will allow you to choose the keywords that are related to what you are trying to promote, and bid for them. If you are going to choose a keyword that most people would type on Google, advertisers and competitors will be all scrambling to get those keywords. This means you have to deal with a lot of competition, and you need to pay more. However, if you were able to get keywords that only a few people type, then you will have to pay less for it. By choosing these kind of keywords will only make you pay less, but then it will give you less impressions and clicks. But, if you do not know how to pick the keywords, you can simply type in Google “Google keyword tool”. Just click on the first result that you see. You will then find all the keywords that are related to your topic. This will save you a lot of time searching for the right keywords.

2. Google Content Network – When choosing this type of campaign, your ads will be displayed on the websites instead of Google’s search engine. Although, you are still in a biding system, but this time you are not just biding on a certain keyword. But, you are now bidding for a placement. If there are 4 available spots for you to advertise on a certain website, the 4 person who has the higher bids will be there. You can even advertise in 5 website, 50 websites, 500 website and even higher than that, as long as you can win every bid for the placement.
